Brian--My bad: I didn't know that was your point. I thought you meant "the post url is so annoying it makes del.icio.us essentially unusable," which is what some students assert.

I just discovered that del.icio.us DOES have a page where you can post a link without using browser buttons. You can find it at http://del.icio.us/post. The browser buttons are more useful, but this makes the service useful to anyone at a computer.

Thanks for the links, Jason.

Brian, I've had the same concerns about Firefox/del.icio.us in a university setting. I'm toying with the idea of having students buy a flash drive and use Portable Firefox, which they can customize to their heart's content (I think).

Thanks for this, Jason, as it's spurred me to hunt uses and services of del.icio.us that I didn't know existed.

One thing that I have always disliked about the service is that it is essentially unusable if your browser doesn't have the buttons installed. This isn't a problem on your own computer or on a laptop. But if you are using public computers, as students frequently do at a university, they might not have the rights to install the needed buttons and cannot, therefore, tag. I've just initiated a conversation here at Emory about including the del.icio.us add-on for Firefox in the image that will be on the desktops for next semester.
